Researcher
Marcel Théza Manríquez
Researcher at CEDER, the Centre for Regional Development and Public Policy Studies of the Universidad de Los Lagos, Chile. Director of IESED-Chile.
Researcher on the political, social and cultural transformations of contemporary societies, mainly on citizenship, participation and social rights. His work addresses institutional trust, youth participation, agrarian reform and social protection systems. He has published widely in the field and has led national and international projects.
His work brings together the analysis of structural reforms of the state with the study of cross-sectoral social policy and of the mechanisms of citizen participation, from a critical, rights-based perspective. Developed from the south of Chile, his research contributes to understanding the challenges of democratic governance, territorial cohesion and active citizenship, with attention to public policy at territorial scale and to equity between territories.
His career combines research with institutional management: he directs the Inter-University Institute for Educational Research, IESED-Chile, and belongs to the Centre for Regional Development and Public Policy Studies (CEDER) of the Universidad de Los Lagos.
He holds a doctorate and a master’s in Political Science from the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), and a degree in Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
