Macarena Stephania Garnica Alarcón

Academic at the Centre for Integral Education of the Universidad de Los Lagos, master’s in Education and Learning Technologies and secondary school teacher specialising in English from the Universidad de Los Lagos. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Education on the Consortium Doctorate in Education of the Universidad de Antofagasta, the Universidad de Playa Ancha and the Universidad de Los Lagos.

Researcher in higher education, on topics such as electives for integral education, the development of formative research and research seedbeds as a strategy for fostering an early research culture among undergraduate students.

She coordinated the ULagos Research Seedbeds programme and is currently coordinator of the Research Seedbeds Network, ReDSI-Chile.

The research she is carrying out within her doctorate is titled «Research Seedbeds in Chilean State Universities: a triad of critical consciousness, situated knowledge production and motivational trajectories», and looks into the processes of situated knowledge production, the development of critical consciousness and the motivational trajectories of students and teachers taking part in research seedbeds at three public universities.
