A new episode of the LIRES podcast (Université de Montréal) is now available, devoted to the importance of inter-American cooperation in higher education. It features Marcel Théza Manríquez (Universidad de Los Lagos, Chile), Cristina Maria D’Ávila Teixeira (Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil) and Olivier Bégin-Caouette (Université de Montréal, Canada), holder of the Canada Research Chair in Comparative and International Higher Education and director of LIRES.

Over the course of the conversation, the guests present InterRed, an inter-American network for higher education studies that grew out of the individual initiatives of researchers rather than from an institutional logic imposed from above. They also discuss the Inter-American Doctoral School, whose second edition embraces multilingualism (French, Spanish and Portuguese) as a way of preserving the cultural richness of the Americas.

The participants stress that this collaboration responds to challenges shared by the region’s higher education systems, such as artificial intelligence, funding, competition between the public and private sectors and faculty development. They also underline that its strength lies not in formal agreements but in a genuine culture of collaboration grounded in respect, dialogue and participation.
